This year, Seminole Lake Rotary gave scholarships to four high-achieving students to help them with their college expenses so they could focus on their studies. Our club has been awarding scholarship for over 25 years, including the Argel Jordan Scholarship (honoring a great educator and Rotarian), Evan Huffman Scholarship (honoring the deceased son of a former Seminole Lake Rotary member), and two Rotary Club of Seminole Lake Scholarships.
Following this year’s granting of the scholarships, we received very nice letters of gratitude from each of the students, which we share with you here:
Thank you so very much for sponsoring me! I am overjoyed to accept the Argel Jordan scholarship and your support means the world. I am excited to begin my college journey with your help and can’t begin to express my gratitude. I can’t wait to pursue my dreams in college and make you and my family proud. With the scholarship I will be able to focus more on my school and studying. With your help I am one step closer to having an amazing education. Thank you again for your generosity and support.
I am writing you to thank you for your generous $500 Evan Huffman scholarship. I was elated and extremely happy to learn that I was selected as the recipient of your scholarship.
First of all, words cannot express how thankful I am for this scholarship. This scholarship will assist me in reaching my academic endeavors. This scholarship will help me with getting materials for my classes and allowing to make paying for college an easier process for me. I plan on studying Dentistry at the University of Florida and majoring in Biology. Your generosity is inspiring and well noted. I will strive to do my best in college. Once again, thank you so much, it means a lot to me.
I am writing this to thank you for the $500 Rotary Club of Seminole Lake Scholarship. I was very excited to learn I was selected as a recipient of this scholarship.
I plan on attending USFSP as a Biology major. I am not completely sure on my career path, but know I love animals. I either want to become a veterinarian or a marine biologist. I will begin going to college this summer and have applied for the honors college program.
By awarding me with the generous Rotary Club of Seminole Lake Scholarship, you have given me the opportunity to focus more on my studies and less on my financial state. Your generosity has opened my eyes to my future and inspired me to always work hard. Thank you for helping me achieve my goals.
Firstly, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. This scholarship was a true blessing and joy to receive. As part of the acceptance, I would like to let you know a little about me. I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and flew to America when I was 5 years old. Our endeavors (my family’s) were to provide and experience an enriched life. With greater educational opportunities and labor pools, we, as a family, thrived in the environment. I found a passion in striving to be the best I can be, in all things I do. I fell in love with athletics, academics, and the community and strove to do the best work I could. Enough about me. The scholarship is really an honor to receive and I will take it to UF, where I will be majoring in biomedical engineering.
With great love, Luis
Next year, Seminole Lake Rotary will be adding the Dudley Hastings Scholarship, in memory of a longtime member of Seminole Lake Rotary who passed away in 2014. Dudley was an exceptional human being who gave much of his time and money for local and international service projects. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucienne, who is a current member of our club.
