Volunteers from Seminole Lake Rotary helped sort clothing for foster children at Eckerd Raising Hope on Saturday. Raising Hope provides clothing, school supplies, and other necessities for foster children immediately after they are removed from family environments where they’re considered to be at risk. Many foster children don’t have the opportunity to take any of their belongings when they are removed from these environments. Raising Hope helps them with basic necessities until the foster families where they are placed can purchase clothing and school supplies for them. Raising Hope primarily collects clothing and supplies from donations. Consequently, it is necessary to sort through donated clothing to determine what is suitable for the children and organize it by size.
We were welcomed by Kelly Rossi, Director of Raising Hope. She provided an overview of the program and all of the great work Raising Hope does.
She put the Seminole Lake team right to work. Anne, Curtis, Mike, Rosa, and Sandra made quick work of the dozen bags and containers full of clothing.
We were all impressed with the work that Kelly and Raising Hope do to help foster children and the families that take them in.
